Will we ever see "the next big thing" in our life times?  Sometimes I wonder....but I think that we will...In fact, I believe that it's already beginning to emerge.  Although there are other potential candidates emerging in the marketplace today, two technology areas that are particularly interesting are next-gen wireless such as LTE, and high quality, easy-to-use video software that appeals to the consumer market.  While each of these individually will change the way we communicate, I think the combination of mobility and video will totally disrupt the way we live our lives.

First some data... the Wall Street Journal recently reported that YouTube has cracked the "billion videos a day" milestone. And mobile phone shipments have exceeded 1 billion per year.  When these numbers start hitting the billions (with a "B"), we know that we are in on something big.

I don't think there is much doubt that video is replacing voice as the de facto means of communication: consumers, particularly younger consumers, are finding it much easier to send video messages and use video chat than to use the telephone calls that their parents and grandparents use to communicate.  Combine this with the fact that the mobile phone is becoming the de facto communication device (with more than twice as many mobile subscribers as landline subscribers worldwide) and it becomes obvious that mobile video will be a game changer in our society... both in business and entertainment... in the way we work and the way we play.

For Dialogic, our challenge is making sure that we are prepared to tackle the technical challenges of delivering high-quality, high-performance video over a mobile device.  And integrating that video with other mobile value-added services to provide consumers with the features and applications that will empower their lives.   There's plenty of work (and opportunity) for all of us in this exploding market.  Hold on - it's going to be a fun ride!!!
