What are the kids watching?

When I was a kid, my family had a single television set in the house - it was a 19" black and white RCA set that gave you a choice of three channels.  Despite the lousy picture and limited choice, I spent hours in front of that set.  Today, my five kids can enjoy 150 channels thanks to my digital satellite television service.  Yet, it seems like the only time that my beloved 52 inch, 1080p, HDTV ever gets used is when I watch a college football game on a Saturday afternoon.  So what are my kids watching?

Well...they still spend too much time in front of a video screen....just like I did as a kid.  But.... most of their viewing content is from nontraditional sources, and it's typically being watched on devices other than a TV.  They're voraciously watching user generated videos on YouTube, as well as their favorite shows like "The Office" or "Family guy" on  hulu .  Typically, they'll use a PC or an iPod and sometimes a mobile handset.  Quite often, they do this while simultaneously texting friends, playing an online video game or even doing homework....  But, you'll rarely find them sitting on the family room couch watching my beloved 52 inch, 1080p, HDTV...  Things have sure changed....
