NENA is the National Emergency Number Association (www.nena.org) and I’ll be travelling to NENA 2011, which is in Minneapolis from June 18^th – June 23^rd. This gives attendees the opportunity to network, to discuss your innovations in the technologies transforming how 911 services are delivered, and to immerse yourself in educational sessions to better understand the needs of the people on the front-line.

Of particular importance is the transition from TDM to IP as part of the Next Generation 911 standards which are awaiting ratification at this time.  Changes to how public safety services are provided are being driven by the advances in mobile technologies, the transition of communications to IP and the increased data types that this move provides. These changes provide many benefits including better integration, scalability and response capabilities.

Moving to IP opens the door to many new capabilities and services that will be possible in the future. More data, SMS, imaging and video is being sent and received, allowing for better understanding of situations and better information for providing the right response.

Dialogic sits at the heart of Public Safety, delivering  the interconnection between these different network types, the management and delivery of many different media types from voice, SMS , data through to video, all brought to the user through our partner's contact centre, IVR and conferencing applications, and accessible from fixed line, VoIP and Cellular devices.

From my other posts you’ll also know I have an interest in Cloud deployments, and with the right backups and redundancy they should play well in supporting the sharing of resources across counties as part of the NG911 rollout.
