BorderNet Virtualized Session Border Controller Supercharges Carrier Investments, Delivers Cloud-Based Multimedia Codec Interworking

Parsippany, N.J. – October 21, 2013Dialogic Inc., the Network Fuel® company, today announced the industry’s first session border controller with native software transcoding. With BorderNet Release 3.2, Dialogic is fully integrating its visionary BorderNet™ Virtualized SBC and the BorderNet 4000 SBC with the multimedia processing power of software transcoding.  In particular, the BorderNet Virtualized SBC becomes the industry’s first carrier class software session border controller with built-in transcoding that can operate in a virtualized environment on commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) servers, offering service providers a leap forward in implementing their Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) strategy.

The newest editions of the BorderNet Virtualized SBC and BorderNet 4000 SBC are being supercharged with state-of-the-art software transcoding honed over billions of sessions in Dialogic’s award-winning PowerMedia™ technology. This software transcoding will enable carriers to quickly benefit from richer multimedia sessions with HD Voice, to bridge nearly any type of session in pursuit of any-to-any networking and to efficiently drive scale as they benefit from software-driven on-demand infrastructure. This Virtualized transcoding will be highly attractive to service providers seeking to shift functionality to the cloud and to leverage their investment in data center server virtualization technology rather than relying on dedicated, proprietary hardware for their network infrastructure.

“Service providers are catching on to the investment return from driving functionality to data centers and virtualized environments instead of to proprietary purpose-built platforms. It’s in their interest to tap into the scalability, flexibility and cost savings that come with NFV, and Dialogic's native software transcoding capabilities are a critical part of that pursuit,” said Jim Machi, vice president of product management for Dialogic. “By integrating the unparalleled media processing capabilities of our PowerMedia technology, we can seamlessly add to the BorderNet 4000 and Virtualized SBCs other capabilities - like video and WebRTC codec support and interworking - more easily and more quickly.”

BorderNet Release 3.2 brings with it game-changing updates and enhancements to the BorderNet 4000 SBC and the BorderNet Virtualized SBC.  Dialogic’s highest capacity hardware session border controller, the BorderNet 4000 SBC, features a high performance and highly scalable border element for peering and access applications in NGN, IMS/VoLTE and IPX environments.  The BorderNet Virtualized SBC brings carrier class functionality to the cloud and enables service providers and enterprises to take advantage of the flexibility, elasticity and cost savings opportunity from virtualization. In addition to software transcoding, Release 3.2 includes scalable support for SIP, SIP-I and SIP-T interworking across mobile and fixed networks, IP Multimedia Subsystem Proxy Call Server Control Function (P-CSCF) capabilities and enhanced complex call handling to support advanced UC and contact center call scenarios.
