A telecommunications device for the deaf (TDD) is a teleprinter, an electronic device for text communication over a telephone line, that is designed for use by persons with hearing or speech difficulties. A TDD can be used to send text over the phone. Someone who cannot hear can then use the phone by typing what they want to say and reading what the other party says.
