Meeting the Challenges of Mobile Video

By Jim Machi, Senior Vice President, Marketing

We have been watching the developments in mobile video for several years now, and the enthusiasm for video applications as they become more ubiquitous in the handheld space. I could quote several optimistic studies, such as the one by Infonetics from last July, which projects that worldwide mobile video service revenue will increase at a 5-year CAGR of 130%, reaching $35 billion by 2011.

To help you understand the challenges of mobile video, we have just completed a new white paper called Mobile Video - A New Opportunity, which not only discusses the market and the types of applications that are popular, but also tells you about the technical issues you and your customers will face, such as the diversity of endpoints, bandwidth constraints, and interactivity. We also discuss architecture and the components you will need.

Finally, we introduce the Dialogic® products, which can help you successfully meet the challenges of mobile video.

Business Aspects

Leverage the Strength of the Dialogic® Brooktrout® Brand
Now members of the Dialogic Partner Program who sell Dialogic® Brooktrout® SR140 Fax Software can leverage the strength and worldwide recognition of the Dialogic® Brooktrout® brand by proudly displaying our new "Build on Dialogic® Brooktrout®" ingredient brand logo. Learn more on the Dialogic website's new FoIP Solutions Section, which also contains a wealth of information and tools, including ROI calculators, and provides a single area from which you can access FoIP white papers, case studies, and more.

Emphasis on Quality and Interoperability
Dialogic continues to emphasize quality and interoperability. We are pleased to announce that we recently received our Global Dialogic ISO Certificate, and we have been continually adding to our convenient interoperability site that provides a centralized source for Dialogic® product interoperability information.

Technical Edge

RTSP Added to Multimedia Demos
The Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) provides an extensible framework to enable controlled, on-demand delivery of real-time data, such as audio and video. Because of its importance as an application-level protocol for control over the delivery of data with real-time properties, Dialogic has added RTSP extensions to two of its existing demos, the Dialogic® 3G-324M Multimedia Gateway demo and the Dialogic® Multimedia demo. Read about these demo enhancements in a new application note.

Integration Progress Continues
Dialogic has been making speedy progress in integrating former NMS product information on its website. You can now view the new Dialogic® CG Series Media Boards datasheet, which includes a convenient table that makes comparing the boards in the series easy, and technical briefs that introduce Dialogic® NaturalAccessTM Software, the Dialogic® NaturalAccessTM Video Access Toolkit, and the Dialogic® Software Video Transcoder.
