Bandwdth On Demand

If you decide to use two-channel bundling, you can adjust the settings on the Diva 850 ISDN T/A so it opens and shuts the other ISDN channel as needed. This is done by entering the Eicon Configuration Program and selecting the Diva 850 ISDN T/A. Go to the Protocols tab and select 2 Channels and BOD and then Save.

Whenever you are actively online with the Internet, and BOD is activated, the following will occur: The Diva 850 ISDN T/A will constantly measure the volume of data per second. If the volume of data exceeds approximately 6000 bytes per second for five consecutive seconds, the second ISDN channel will open (the maximum volume of data for an ISDN channel is 8000 bytes per second, and 16,000 bytes per second for two ISDN channels). If the volume of data falls below 4000 bytes per second for 30 consecutive seconds, the second ISDN channel will close again.

The specified figures for volume of data and number of seconds are the standard settings in the Diva 850 ISDN T/A. The figures can be changed using the Eicon Configuration Program. These settings will not be placed directly in the adapter, but will be saved under the "dial-up networking" set-up which you use to dial up the Internet. This function is only available if your ISDN/Internet provider supports two-channel bundling.

Note! Whenever you use BOD, you will normally pay double the call initiation charge and double phone-line charges when both ISDN channels are in use. But the double rates are only charged when there is sufficient data traffic for opening both ISDN channels.
