The Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a new and easier way of connecting peripherals to your personal computer. In addition to traditional RS-232 serial ports / COM-Port, your computer might be equipped with a USB port to which you connect your adapter. Your computer works as a "host" for USB devices such as your new Diva 850 ISDN T/A adapter.
The main purpose for developing USB has been to ease the installation of peripherals to the personal computer (which is why we support USB). This goal has resulted in the following advantages when you want to connect new hardware to your USB computer:
Advantages in Hardware Installation
Hot plugging of peripherals is supported. You can connect your adapter while your computer is on and operating.
The adapter is automatically recognised by the computer's operating system. The computer's operating system will also configure the adapter if it can detect relevant software such as drivers for the adapter.
The adding or removal of a USB adapter will not affect any tasks already running on the PC. The operating system practically takes care of the "plug and play" process without the user's interaction.
You can connect several USB devices (127) to your computer, all you need is HUBs and cables.
There are several possibilities for connecting USB devices. Normally there are two USB plugs on the computer and in some cases also on the monitor.
Software Installation
When you install data, fax and voice programs on your USB computer to use with your adapter, you do not need to assign a COM-Port. Just choose the Eicon product that corresponds to your adapter in the program.
USB & Windows 95
Eicon does not recommend you to use Windows 95 with your Diva 850 ISDN T/A adapter. This is due to the fact that Windows 95 has problems with the USB-port. We recommend Windows 98 since this operating system is more suitable for USB products.
