Dialogic® System Release Issues with Windows Server® 2003 Service Pack 2

Summary:
This document discusses issues such as BSOD, random reboots, and/or application exceptions that can occur when running Dialogic® System Release Software on Windows Server® 2003 Service Pack 2.

Symptom: Users may encounter one or more of the following conditions when running Dialogic® System Release Software on Windows Server® 2003 Service Pack2:
  1. Application exceptions
  2. Blue screen of death (BSOD)
  3. Random reboots
Items 2 and 3 have the same root cause, namely When a system encounters a Windows® Stop Error, its behavior is determined by the settings shown under System Properties -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery.  If the "Automatically restart" box is checked in this window, the system will reboot as soon as a Windows® Stop Error is encountered.  The Startup and Recovery window is shown here:

If this box is not checked, Windows will display BSOD with the corresponding system error code.

Reason for the issue:

Certain Dialogic® System Releases do not not support use on Windows Server® 2003 Service Pack2. The only releases where this OS version is supported are later builds of Dialogic® System Release 6.0 PCI for Windows® and Dialogic® Host Media Processing Software Release 3.0 for Windows® The above symptoms have been observed on the following releases:
  • Dialogic® Host Media Processing Software Release 1.1
  • Dialogic® Host Media Processing Software Release 1.3
  • Dialogic® Host Media Processing Software Release 2.0
  • Dialogic® System Release SR 5.1.1 FP1 SU (SP3)
  • Dialogic® System Release SR 6.0 on builds earlier than SU 148 (support was added from builds 148 and above)
Workaround:

The user has three choices to work around the compatibility issues:
  1. Upgrade to either Dialogic HMP Software Release 3.0 for Windows or Dialogic System Release 6.0 SU 148 (or above)
  2. Uninstall Service Pack 2 for Windows® 2003, and roll back to Service Pack 1
  3. Migrate to a different operating system - for example Windows® XP
