Dialogic® DM3 and JCT Media Boards

Symptoms detected with Dialogic® IPT IP Boards may be corrected through Firmware update

Summary:

Overview of how to Upgrade Firmware on Dialogic® IPT IP Boards

Symptom:

This note may help to address several symptoms with Dialogic IPT IP Boards, including, but not limited to:

  1. Card detection issues
  2. Card download issues
  3. Resource detection issues (i.e. only 400 of 672 channels being detected)
  4. Run-time issues like hung voice channels, stuck ports, etc.

Reason for the issue:

Dialogic IPT IP Boards have a more permanent version of embedded firmware than other Dialogic® cards. The firmware can be upgraded, but it is not automatically downloaded to the board each time Dialogic® services are started. Therefore, firmware fixes for these boards require an additional manual step to ugrade the firmware.

Fix / Solution:

When upgrading to a new Service Update, always upgrade Firmware as well, in order to take full advantage of new fixes in the Service Update. The method for upgrading firmware is similar for Windows® and Linux, but the name of the utility used under each operating system differs.

Instructions on how to upgrade firmware can currently be found in  Chapter 4.7 of the Linux Administration Guide

NOTE: The above-mentioned Linux guide may also be used to upgrade firmware for Windows; however, the utility name must be changed, as indicated below:
  1. As per the documentation, to upgrade firmware for a Linux system, use the following utility in the command line: iptfwupdate -[parameter_list].
  2. To upgrade firmware for a Windows system, use the following utility in the command line: dlgpmacfwupdate -[parameter_list]
  3. To identify the current firmware version, check the IPTBoardSoftwareVersion under the Software Constants tab in the Dialogic® Configuration Manager (DCM).
