Interoperability of Dialogic hardware, on Different PCI Form Factors
Problem Description:Not all Dialogic Cards fit in all PCI form factors
Solution Summary:
If you find it difficult to insert a board into a PCI slot, inspect the Gold Fingers, and compare them with the available PCI slot. A 5 Volt board, it will not physically fit in a 3.3 Volt slot, however a universal board will fit and function in either type of slot. Technical Discussion:
PCIx is a form factor that runs at 66MHz, with 64bits/second and requires 3.3 Volts to be supplied.Universal blades run in these slots and the legacy 5 volt PCI slots. The universal connector makes it physically possible to insert these blades into both the 5Volt and 3.3 volt PCI form factors.

Although functionally equivalent, there is one significant difference in the Universal PCI and the 5Volt PCI boards. The difference is that the connector gold fingers of the Universal card have an extra slot punched out. This slot enables the board to be inserted into either of the PCI slots shown in figure 2. The gold fingers on the 5 Volt board only have one slot cut into them. The fact that there is only one slot cut out of the gold fingers on the 5 Volt board restricts it from being inserted into PCIx or 3.3v PCI form factor. This has been done by design since the 3.3 volt PCI slots do not provide enough voltage to run the 5 volt boards. However, the Universal cards have been designed such that they can function regardless of weather 3.3 volts, or 5 volts are supplied by the host chassis.
After successfully inserting the blades into a given chassis, there still exists the potential for detection, or start-up issues. It is important to take note of the Chassis model number and power distribution among the PCI slots if the board/boards are not detected. If the host chassis is an IBMx235, Compaq G3, SRSH4, or if you experience lock-ups during boot, review and install PTR27176.
