Licensing considerations when using Diva softIP in virtualized environments.

Introduction 

Dialogic® Diva® softIP for SIP Software licenses are based on the DUID (Device Unique ID) generated by the softIP software. This DUID is calculated based on various components of the server. For licenses to remain valid, these server characteristics need to be kept the same. Any change in the server's hardware will invalidate the installed license(s).

Virtual Machines

Although Diva softIP can be used in virtual machines (VM), the host system should be configured to keep the VM parameters the same at all times or the license will be invalidated.

The most common issue is the VM not having a fixed static MAC address assigned by the host. The VM might then get a different MAC address upon rebooting. Make sure the host always assigns the same MAC address to the softIP VM.

Another common issue is the VM jumping to another node/cluster with different characteristics upon rebooting. Jumping to a different node/cluster is permissible, provided the parameters for the VM are the same.

Note:  If your license appears invalid in the softIP License Manager after a reboot, check if the MAC address could have changed, and try to restore it. Also check if any other VM characteristics have changed. If your VM is hosted by a third-party company, check with them if they can set the VM back to the node it was on previously. This will ensure the license becomes valid again.
