Dialogic® Host Media Processing (HMP) Software

How to eliminate front-end loss on plays from a Dialogic® Host Media Processing Software system

Symptom

When a play is issued from a Dialogic® Host Media Processing (HMP) Software system through an IP front end device, the audio volume is sometimes too low for the other side to hear.

Reason for the issue

By default, Dialogic® HMP Software imposes a 7dB volume loss on all plays that go through an IP device.  This is done to keep the Dialogic HMP Software  in line with other technologies that have natural loss (e.g. analog) and allow many users to have the same prompts across multiple platforms without it sounding much louder in one environment than another.

Fix / Solution

It is possible to modify the amount of loss via the configuration files.

To eliminate the 7dB loss take these steps:

1) Add the following lines to the .config file:

[player]
SetParm=0x104,0

2) Run fcdgen to submit the changes to the fcd file

3) Restart Dialogic services

NOTE: If the [player] section already exists in the .config file, do not add a second [player] section, just add the SetParm statement to that section

If you want to eliminate only some of the loss, this parameter can be set in increments of 4.  For each 4 units the variable is raised, the loss will be 1dB greater.  By default, it is set to 28 (-7dB).

For example, if you want to change the loss from 7dB to 3dB, raising the output by 4dB, set the parameter to 12:

[player]
SetParm=0x104,12
