Dialogic® Host Media Processing (HMP) Software

Understanding DebugAngel Additional Configuration Options

Symptom:
The DebugAngel service contains additional configuration options that can be configurable through Windows registry. In some cases, the functionality of the parameters and their relationship to the other parameters, are not clear. This technical note provides an explanation for each parameter and its setting.

Fix / Solution:
To access Debug Angel Service additional configuration options, go to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Dialogic\DebugAngel
Warning: Incorrect manipulation of the Windows registry can render your system unusable, requiring that you reinstall Windows®. Only a system administrator qualified to modify the registry should change the DebugAngel configuration.

Below is a list of available options and their parameters:

AutoRename:
(default)
= When this value is set to a value of 1, then at startup, DebugAngel will create a backup version of any existing log file by appending .bak to the log file name (e.g. DebugAngel.log.bak).

0 = When this value is set to a value of 0, then at startup, DebugAngel will NOT create a backup version of any existing logfile. The existing DebugAngel log file will be over written by new data.

2 = If this value is set to 2, then the new log file name will have the date and time appended to the name of the log file, making the logfile name unique.

3 = If the value is set to 3, then the naming convention of the log file will use multiple debugangel log files. The parameter ‘MaxFiles’ is used to determine the number of files to create.

i.e.
         AutoRename = 3
         MaxFiles = 2

DebugAngel00.log and DebugAngel01.log will be created.

NOTE: If 'AutoRename'=3, Debug Angel Service will not create a backup log should services restart. The log files will be overwritten so there are a maximum of ‘MaxFiles’ log files.

DebugLevel:
The 'DebugLevel' parameter is used to Enable/Disable output. Setting this value to ‘1’, enables DebugAngel’s output to WIN32 DebugView utility.

MaxFiles:
The 'MaxFiles' parameter is setting sets the total number of max files for the DebugAngel logs. This parameter is used when ‘AutoRename’=3. The default for this parameter is ‘1’ (for 1 file).

i.e.
        MaxFiles=7

DebugAngel00.log - DebugAngel07.log

MaxFileSize:
The 'MaxFilesSize' parameter is used to specify the max size the DebugAngel log file can grow to. When the ‘MaxFilesize’ is reached and the ‘AutoRename’ parameter is set to either 1 or 2, the contents of the log file are flushed and any subsequent output to the log file starts at the beginning of the file.

If the ‘AutoRename’ parameter is set to 3, then the contents of the log file are saved and a new log file is either created or, in the case where the log file already exists, it is overwritten so there are a maximum of ‘MaxFiles’ log files
