Dialogic® IP Media Server

How to change the root password

Symptom:
The Dialogic® IP Media Server root password has been forgotten or inadvertently changed.

Solution:
The user should first follow the IP Media Server instructions to log in as Super User. By default, this is as follows:

Use a remote login tool, such as SSH or PuTTY, and login with the following credentials

username: maint
password: GenTwo

From the prompt, type the command 'sudo su' to login as a Super User:

snow-sip > sudo su
Password:

Use the password 'GenTwo' again.

Now you are logged in as a Super User, you can type the Linux 'passwd' command to change the root password.

Enter the same new password twice when prompted.

snow-sip > passwd
Changing password for user root.
New UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:

After you enter and reenter the new  password, you should receive verification that this was done successfully:

passwd: all authentication tokens updated successfully.

NOTE: This password change is only for the ‘root’ username and it does not affect other user logins. The IP Media Server login still remains the same (i.e. user: maint, password: GenTwo, by default).

See the screenshot capture below for the sequence from above, for changing the root password:
