E-mail
Electronic mail enables the user to transmit messages over a communications network to one or more recipients, locally or globally. An e-mail can be a simple text message, but it is possible to send complex files with various attachments. When sending an e-mail the sender must specify the recipient’s e-mail address. The e-mail is then delivered into the recipient’s electronic mailbox. Separate networks or e-mail systems communicate in this way via so-called gateways. It is possible to send an e-mail at a fraction of the cost of making a call or sending a letter.
