Dial-in
Dial-in is a method of connecting a remote computer to the network of e.g. a company via the Internet. Dial-in provides network access with geographic flexibility as users may dial-in from their homes or while travelling. For a dial-in connection the remote computer uses a modem and a standard telephone connection. The term ‘dial-in’ is furthermore used to describe a process where an Internet service provider (ISP) ‘calls’ a customer to alert the customer of incoming e-mail or visitors to the customer’s Web site.
