NAT
Network Address Translation, NAT, is an Internet standard allowing local area networks to use two sets of IP addresses – one for internal network traffic and one for external traffic. By hiding internal IP addresses and allowing the establishment of Internet connections from the local area network only, it can prevent hacker attempts from the Internet. This way NAT can be used as a firewall between the local area network and the Internet. Additionally, NAT provides a company or an organisation with a larger amount of IP addresses. As the IP addresses are used only on the local network, they don’t conflict with IP addresses already in use on the public Internet.
