Shared resources may range from a single printer in an office to an indefinite amount of information on e.g. the Internet. The most common types of networks are: LANs (Local Area Networks – in which the computers are near each other, such as in the same office or building) and WANs (Wide Area Networks – in which the computers are at different geographical locations and are connected by telephone lines or radio waves).
