Server Software allowing a computer to offer data and services to other computers. Examples: file servers, print servers, network servers and Web servers. Normally, a client is needed to make use of a server. The client computer contacts the server using software that matches the server software. The client/server architecture illustrates this dependency principle. On a TCP/IP network, including the Internet, each server has a unique IP address. The term Server is also used to define the hardware, a host computer.
