How to work out the network number for a network

The network number is the part of the IP address that all hosts on a network share. The network number of an IP address is found by using the subnet mask to mask off the host portion of the IP address.

The 'IP Address & Subnetting' course offers advice on 'Calculating a subnet mask' as well as 'Calculating a network number using a subnet mask'.
