DIVA Pro and DIVA Server BRI - the differences

The DIVA Pro client cards have different functionality to the DIVA Server cards when used in a server environment. This difference arises from the fact that the DIVA Pro has one DSP (digital signal processor) while the DIVA Server has two DSPs. In addition, the DIVA Server cards have a powerful RISC processor that further off-loads the PC's processor.

The result of this limitation of the DIVA Pro is that the ISDN line can appear to be 'busy' when only one of the two channels that ISDN provides is being used. Therefore, Eicon recommends the use of DIVA Server cards for server applications in order that customers can take maximum advantage of the two channels provided by ISDN.

The following connection types all require exclusive use of one DSP (digital signal processor) per active B-channel:

For instance, if you use a DIVA Server BRI card in a RAS server or fax server, you can have two simultaneous connections to or from any mix of remote clients using analog modems, fax modems, GSM data adapters and ISDN connections.

In the same circumstances, a DIVA Pro can support only one analog modem, fax modem or GSM data call at a time.

If you think you will ever have more than one concurrent modem, fax or GSM call (or you might in the future), we strongly advise you to use the DIVA Server BRI in preference to the DIVA Pro.
