Open Source Initiatives

As the open source community begins providing hardened software solutions that can meet the requirements of carriers and larger enterprises, an equally robust telecom infrastructure is required.  Dialogic is answering this need by creating the interfaces needed to make its extensive portfolio of hardware and software solutions available to the open source community.

Dialogic has been supporting ISVs with open standards-based boards and software since the beginning of the standards-based era. Supporting open source telephony ISVs is a natural evolution for Dialogic, which has an extraordinary history of collaborating with its partners in their transition to new technology.

The open source telephony market has now developed to the point where participants are finding opportunities that can only be addressed effectively by the kinds of technology and products that Dialogic can offer.  Dialogic has products and technologies that can deliver solid network connectivity and enhanced media processing for Asterisk® and other open source communications projects.

In addition to its boards and media gateways, Dialogic sponsors Project DiaStar™,  which focuses on creating the software interfaces required for open source developers to access portions of the Dialogic® product portfolio. Project DiaStar allows open source developers to continue to work in the application development environment that is native to their projects while gaining access to Dialogic® technology (CPA, video, SS7) without requiring them to know any of the associated Dialogic® APIs.

Dialogic® Products and Open Source Projects

DiaStar Server
The DiaStar Server (DSS) was developed by Project DiaStar, and acts as a multi-function peripheral that can be implemented as a media gateway, signaling gateway, or media server. Because it operates in a distributed client-server environment, DSS can provide many beneficial features for open source developers working on Asterisk® or other open source implementations.

Project DiaStar
Project DiaStar is an open source project sponsored by the Dialogic Corporation whose purpose is to create software that allows open source developers to access portions of the Dialogic® product portfolio and bring advanced communications technology to demanding open source markets.

The first DiaStar™ Technology release is a TDM-IP gateway that uses DSS, can work with Asterisk, and leverages Dialogic® Perfect Call, which provides Call Progress Analysis (CPA) for outbound calling. A chan_woomera client for Asterisk is also included.

The second DiaStar Technology release adds video features. You can view a summary of the new video features or learn more about the applications you can create with them.

Dialogic® Diva® Media Boards for Asterisk
Dialogic® Diva® Media Boards can be used directly within an open source Asterisk PBX to provide a native connection to the PSTN network. Diva Media Boards have onboard DSPs that deliver the media and signaling needed for high-density communications processing.

Dialogic® Media Gateways
Dialogic® Media Gateways allow an IP  telephony server, such as Asterisk, to operate in IP mode while providing transparent PSTN connectivity without additional load on the server.
