IP Address

Description:

In software 10.5.2 ER1 the IP Address object was added to replace the Network Interface object. If using software version 10.5.2 CI or an earlier version of software then use Network Interface object. The IP Address object is used to configure each of the individual interfaces (Control, Data, or Signaling) located on the rear of the IMG. Within this object the ip addresses of the interface, the subnet of the interface, and the Default Gateway can all be configured. To create the IP Address object, Right Click on the IP Network object and select New IP Address. See information below.

Field Descriptions

The IP Address object enables a user to assign an IP address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway address to each individual interface located on the rear of the IMG 1010. Within the IMG an IP address can be assigned to either a VoIP Module or a CPU. The field descriptions in first section below will pertain to the CPU. The sections to follow will pertain to the VoIP modules.

CPU AS PHYSICAL INTERFACE:

Physical Interface: CPU

Select CPU from drop down menu of the Physical Interface field. The CPU is located inside the IMG and can control all services such as SIP signaling, H.323 Signaling, SNMP, Radius, etc. Any services that are not accomplished on the VoIP Modules are occupied by the CPU. The CPU can interface with the Control, Data, and Signaling Port which is why multiple IP Addresses can be added to any of the physical interfaces (Control/Data/Signaling) located on the rear of the IMG. When ‘CPU’ is selected from the Physical Interface field then the Logical Interface, which are ports on rear of IMG, will be selections in its drop down menu.

Logical Interface

Select from drop down menu one of the selections below:

Data (10/100/1000) – Select Data from drop down menu to configure the DATA ports located on the rear of the IMG. Selecting the Data Port in conjunction with the CPU as the Physical Interface will support any configurable services such as VoIP signaling, SNMP, Radius, etc. The Data ports IP address configured here cannot be used for management services such as NFS, DHCP, NTP, etc. See Connecting Ethernet & TDM Cables.

Control (10/100) - Select Control from drop down menu to configure the CTL ports located on the rear of the IMG. Selecting the CTL Port in conjunction with the CPU as the Physical Interface will support any configurable services such as VoIP signaling, SNMP, Radius, etc. The Control ports IP address configured here cannot be used for management services such as NFS, DHCP, NTP, etc. See Connecting Ethernet & TDM Cables.

Signaling(10/100) - Select Signaling from drop down menu to configure the SIG ports located on the rear of the IMG. Selecting the Signaling Port in conjunction with the CPU as the Physical Interface will support any configurable services such as VoIP signaling, SNMP, Radius, etc. The Signaling ports IP address configured here cannot be used for management services such as NFS, DHCP, NTP, etc. See Connecting Ethernet & TDM Cables.

Address Type

IPV4 (Internet Protocol Version 4) – Only Internet Protocol IPV4 is supported.

IP Address

Click in this field and enter an IP address in the “Enter IP Address” box that appears. The IP address entered will be used for any of the configurable services such as VoIP signaling, SNMP, Radius, etc. If multiple CPU Physical Interfaces are configured, each can have a different IP address. See Notes above for more information.

Subnet

The default Subnet is displayed. This field displays the subnet mask that will be used with the IP address configured above. To change the subnet, click in this field and enter a new Subnet Mask into the box that appears.

Default Gateway (Default 255.255.255.0)

Click in this field and an “Enter IP Address” box will appear. Enter IP address of the Default Gateway the interface will be connected to.

Gratuitous ARP and ARP Responses

This field is used for the SIP-Based Load Balancing feature when creating a SIP Virtual Address. When creating a Virtual SIP Address, set this field to disable. When the Gratuitous ARP and ARP Responses are set to Disable, the Virtual IP Address will not be allowed to issue a Gratuitous ARP. In addition, whenever an external node attempts to send an ARP to this Virtual IP Address, the ARP Reply will be suppressed. Any node that knows the MAC address associated with this Virtual IP Address (through static configuration as used in Load Balancers) will be able to send packets to it. The Virtual IP Address will be able to send packets to any desired node since the ARP Requests from the Virtual IP Address, for an unknown IP’s MAC address, will be allowed. For all outbound SIP requests, the real SIP Signaling IP Address is used to send SIP messages, even if the outbound transaction is within a dialog which had previously used the Virtual IP Address.

Any Network Interface that is configured with Gratuitous ARP and ARP Responses Disabled will appear in the SIP Virtual IP Address field drop-down in the SIP Virtual Address pane.

VLAN ID (Range = 0 - 4094)

Configuring the VLAN ID field will embed a VLAN Tag into any outgoing packets with a specific ip address that are communicating through the interface configured above. Click in the VLAN ID field and a Range Dialog box will appear. Enter an ID in the ID: field of this Range Dialog box. The ID's range from 0 - 4094. A VLAN ID of 0 signifies the VLAN tagging functionality is disabled. Refer to the VLAN Tagging topic for more information.

VLAN Priority

The VLAN Priority field is not visible until the VLAN ID field is modified to a value other than 0. Once a value is configured the VLAN Priority field appears. Select from drop down menu the priority being given to this VLAN Tag. The priority given will indicate a priority level that will be given to the packet. A priority of 7 is highest and priority of 0 is the lowest. These values can be used to prioritize different classes of traffic (voice, video, data, etc). VoIP MODULE (IMG 1010) -or- VoIP Processor (IMG 1004)

Physical Interface: (VoIP Module -or- VoIP Processor)

Select VoIP Module 0 or 1 from drop down menu of the Physical Interface field. The VoIP module is a separate module that is inserted onto the motherboard of the IMG. The VoIP module is used for RTP traffic. When either VoIP Module 0 or 1 is selected from drop down menu, the Logical Interface will default to ‘Data’ and the Gratuitous ARP and ARP Responses field changes to green and cannot be edited.

Logical Interface

Data – When VoIP Module is selected in the Physical Interface field then the Logical field defaults to Data and cannot be changed.

Address Type

IPV4 (Internet Protocol Version 4) – Only Internet Protocol IPV4 is supported.

IP Address

Click in this field and enter an IP address in the 'Enter IP Address' box that appears. The IP address entered will be configured on the VoIP Module selected in the Physical Interface field.

When VoIP Module 0 or 1 is selected in the Physical Interface field, the Gratuitous ARP and ARP Responses field turns green and cannot be edited.

VLAN ID (Range = 0 - 4095)

Configuring the VLAN ID field will embed a VLAN Tag into any outgoing packets with a specific ip address that are communicating through the interface configured above. Click in the VLAN ID field and a Range Dialog box will appear. Enter an ID in the ID: field of this Range Dialog box. The ID's range from 0 - 4094.
