Release Notes 213-338-10 March 2008 Dialogic Eiconcard(TM) Connections for Windows - S-Series/C-Series Introduction ======================================================================== The information in this document applies only to Eiconcard Connections for Windows - S-Series/C-Series and supersedes any corresponding information in the other documentation included with this software. Before you install the software consult this document for important information and known limitations. Important Note Regarding Eiconcard Commands ======================================================================== For supported operating systems other than Vista, most informational commands can be executed by all users. Other commands are restricted for security purposes and can only be executed by members of the Administrators group. When running Eiconcard commands on a Vista system, with User Account Control (UAC) turned ON, all Eiconcard commands may be executed by users who can provide an administrator password. If Vista UAC is turned OFF restricted commands can only be executed by members of the Administrators group. To run Eiconcard command line applications in Vista, it is strongly recommended that all users open an elevated ("Run as Administrator") command prompt from which to execute the commands. Failure to do so will cause Vista to open an elevated window for each command individually and immediately close it when the command completes. Users who are not members of the Administrators group must provide an administrator password in order to open an elevated command prompt. What's New ======================================================================== Version V6R6: ------------- - Support for Windows Vista (both 32 and 64 bit) has been added. - This release is signed with the Dialogic digital certificate. - Service release fixes. Version V6R5: ------------- - Eiconcard Connections for Windows now includes both a 32-bit version (located in the Windows 2000_XP_2003\x86 folder) and a 64-bit version (located in the Windows 2000_XP_2003\x64 folder.) - Eiconcard Connections for Windows can now be found in a new location in the START Menu. All Eiconcard links are now located in: ALL PROGRAMS > DIALOGIC > EICONCARD - Support has been added for Eiconcard S94PCIe. - Eiconcard S5x and P9x are no longer supported by Eiconcard Connections for Windows. - This version of Eiconcard Connections for Windows supports all versions of Eiconcard C2x and C3x. - The LED lights on V2 Eiconcards now react in a manner similar to V1 cards. Selecting an Eiconcard in EcAdmin when the card is in a HALTED state causes an LED on the card's bracket to flash slowly. Clicking the 'Flash card LED' button in EtdwTest when the Eiconcard is in either a HALTED or a TESTING state will also cause an LED on the card's bracket to flash slowly. Eiconcards can be halted (stopped) by executing ECCARD STOP -Y from the command prompt. Clicking the 'Set test mode' button in Etdwtest will put the Eiconcard in the TESTING state. - Two new diagnostic tools have been included in this version of the Eiconcard Connections for Windows software. ECETD.EXE is a hardware diagnostic utility; it replaces ECTEST.EXE, which was included in earlier releases. Note that while ECETD.EXE is meant to be executed from a command prompt, it can only be executed in a Windows 2000/XP/2003 environment. ECETD must be executed from the Eicon folder A version of this test utility, which is designed to run in a true DOS environment (e.g.: from a Windows 98se boot disk), is also available. Please contact your Dialogic representative for more information. EICONCARD TEST AND DIAGNOSTICS (ETDWTEST.EXE) is a GUI-based hardware diagnostic utility, which also provides simple X.25 connection information and diagnostics. It is available from the START menu under ALL PROGRAMS > DIALOGIC > EICONCARDS. Optional Loopback Adapter Tests are also available in ECETD.EXE and ETDWTEST.EXE. Please see the online help for more detailed information about these tests. Contact your Dialogic representative for information regarding the Loopback Adapters required to execute these tests. - During installation of the Eiconcard(s), the new version and build number will now be displayed in the title bar. - All online help (*.hlp) files have been replaced with *.chm files, which can be viewed in your web browser. - Support for up to 254 sessions per Eiconcard port has been added for V2 Eiconcards. Note that 254 sessions per port is currently supported for a maximum of two (2) configured Eiconcard ports. Only the X.25 protocol may be configured on the Eiconcard. This feature is not compatible with Connection Manager. A firmware update may be required to support the 254 VCs per port feature on V1 Eiconcards. Please contact your Dialogic representative for details. - ECADMIN.EXE now supports the /import function, which imports a valid configuration file. The new configuration will take effect when the Eiconcard or its host computer is restarted. To learn how to use the /import command, refer to the Eiconcard Connections for Windows Online Guide (ecguide.chm). - Transport ISO and Bull TGX High Level Protocols are included in this release. Please refer to the online help for more details. Transport ISO and BULL TGX -------------------------- - For this release, the Transport Bull TGX protocol is not supported on V2 Eiconcards. - Concurrent running of more than one AF_ISO family protocol is now supported. - Call rejection now issues an E8 diagnostic code when using Siemens products. - External DLLs (ex25.dll and ecisdnnum.dll) have been included for better compatibility with Siemens products. - Now supports more than two (2) applications issuing more than two (2) listens using different NSAPs on the same X.25 port. - Cleanup of aborted state connections has been implemented. - NSAP is now displayed in ECMODULE STATUS XPORTISO. - All transport activity is now included in traces (connected or not). - Enhancements to the Eiconcard X.25 Winsock Service Provider: - Multiple listens are now issued. - Extended Address Facility is now supported. - WSADuplicateSocket has been implemented. - Spare Ports can now be listed when connecting. - WSASelect now supports multiple processes. - NSAPs with padded 'F' standard for ITU X.213 now supported. - WSAAccept will now return the NSAP to the tp_addr struct - X.25 Winsock Documentation has been updated. Configuration ======================================================================== Split Clocking -------------- Split Clocking is now supported on all V2 Eiconcards. Split Clocking allows each end of the connection to use its own clock. Split clocking is recommended for high speed connections and/or long cable runs. When using this feature, both ends of the connection and the cable(s) connecting them must be compatible with Split Clocking. All current Dialogic Eiconcard Cables support Split Clocking. Note that the ECDIALER STATUS command lists SPLIT clocking as INTERNAL. FM0 and FM1 Encoding ------------------ FM0 and FM1 Encoding now supports speeds up to 1536000bps for Eiconcard S91V2 and up to 64000 bps for Eiconcard C91V2. Eiconcard S94V2 supports speeds up to 2048000 bps. Backup Connections ------------------ When using two (2) port backup configurations, the Backup Connection's LAN Emulation TCP/IP properties should be left as DHCP. Single port backup connections must be configured with the same IP address information as their associated Primary connections. Eiconcard SNA ------------- The Eiconcard SNA Stack is now supported on all V2 Eiconcards. SNA and Eiconcard LAN V5r1 -------------------------- SNA traffic sent over Eiconcard LAN V5r1 may not be compatible with Eiconcard Connections for Windows V6r5. Importing Router Configurations With ECCLI -F --------------------------------------------- When using ECCLI -F to import configurations which include an Eiconcard Router onto a system with more than one Eiconcard installed, you must check that the Eiconcard Router is assigned to the correct port. This parameter is found in the connection's properties in EcAdmin. Reconfiguring a Port Protocol ----------------------------- If you try to reconfigure a port protocol (for example, from Frame Relay to X.25) on an enabled Eiconcard, the Eiconcard may fail to reconnect after the Eiconcard Configuration Program restarts the Eiconcard. If this occurs, you must restart your computer for the configuration changes to take effect. Multiple Ports/Instances of Eiconcard NDIS LAN Emulation -------------------------------------------------------- When you configure certain Eiconcards with two (2) or more ports or with two (2) or more instances of Eiconcard NDIS LAN Emulation, the Eiconcard Configuration Program may not be able to automatically restart the Eiconcard after you save the configuration. If this occurs, try to restart the Eiconcard manually by issuing the following commands from the Windows command line: ECCARD STOP ECCARD START Installation ======================================================================== ECUPDATE /Silent and the System Reboot Message ---------------------------------------------- ECUPDATE /Silent will now suppress the System Reboot message, which may be displayed when updating from an earlier build. Updating Eiconcard WAN Miniports and Eiconcard PAD -------------------------------------------------- Note that when upgrading Eiconcard WAN Miniports or Eiconcard PAD, the version number displayed on the device Properties' Driver Tab will not be updated. Click on the Driver Details button to verify the versions of the updated files. Windows XP With Service Pack 2 ------------------------------ When installing an Eiconcard for the first time on a Windows XP system which includes Service Pack 2, you must wait until Windows has completed its autodetection process before executing ECUPDATE.EXE. Failure to wait until the process is complete may result in an incomplete or unusable installation. You must also wait for the autodetection process to complete when the system is rebooted after the WANCLEAN.EXE application has been executed. The autodetection process is complete when the Hardware Wizard dialogue box appears. Digital Signature Not Found (Windows 2000) Not Windows Logo Compliant (Windows XP) ------------------------------------------ When you install or update Eiconcard Connections for Windows drivers, a "Digital Signature Not Found" (Windows 2000) or "Not Windows Logo Compliant" (Windows XP) message box may be displayed. This message can be ignored. Click Yes or OK to continue installing or updating the drivers. Development Tools Applications and the EX25.DLL file ---------------------------------------------------- A new version of the EX25.DLL file is included in this release of Eiconcard Connections for Windows. When upgrading an installed Eiconcard, the existing file will be overwritten. This can result in applications failing to initialize correctly if they were written with an earlier version of the file. Backing up the existing EX25.DLL file before updating your installation is recommended. Moving or replacing an Eiconcard ======================================================================== If you want to move a previously installed and configured Eiconcard from one PCI slot to another, or replace it with another Eiconcard in a different slot, you must first uninstall the Eiconcard from the Windows Network Adapters list as described below. Replacing an Eiconcard with another card of the same type in the same slot does not require any change. 1. From the Desktop, right-click My Computer and select Manage. The Computer Management window appears. 2. In the left-hand pane, expand the System Tools branch and click Device Manager. 3. In the right-hand pane, expand the Network Adapters branch, right-click on the Eiconcard instance, and select Uninstall. 4. Shut down your computer and either move the Eiconcard to another slot, or replace it with the new Eiconcard. When you restart your computer, Windows will recognize the card and install the appropriate files. Improper uninstall when replacing an Eiconcard - Recovery Procedure ======================================================================== If a previously installed and configured Eiconcard is moved from one PCI slot to another, or is replaced with another Eiconcard in a different slot, without first uninstalling it from the Network Adapters list (as described above), an error message will appear during installation and/or when EcAdmin is started and you will experience problems using the card. A cleanup application - WANCLEAN.EXE - is available and may be used to recover from this and other situations involving a corrupted installation which cannot be resolved by uninstalling normally. Please see the WANCLEAN section below for more details. WANCLEAN.EXE ======================================================================== The WANCLEAN.EXE application is designed to cleanly remove all currently and previously installed Eiconcards and Eiconcard Optional Services from a Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, 2003 or Vista system using any version of Eiconcard Connections for Windows 2000/XP/2003 software. This version of WANCLEAN.EXE will not run on any other version of Microsoft Windows. WANCLEAN.EXE is included in the latest Eiconcard Connections for Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista software. It is installed in the Eicon folder and may be executed from a command prompt. The WANCLEAN.EXE file can be copied into any location on any Microsoft Windows 2000,XP,2003 or Vista system. For proper operation, WANCLEAN.EXE requires an additional DLL. Copy DIFXAPI.DLL from your installation into the same location as WANCLEAN.EXE. Once copied to the new system WANCLEAN.EXE may be executed normally. Although WANCLEAN.EXE may also be executed from a diskette, please note that WANCLEAN.EXE is designed to run only in a Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista environment. Syntax ------ WANCLEAN.EXE uses the following syntax: WANCLEAN [/option:parameter] Available options ----------------- /? - Displays help for WANCLEAN.EXE. /log:filename. - logs the activities of WANCLEAN.EXE to a file when it is executed. WANCLEAN log files can be viewed with a text editor such as Windows Notepad. The default filename is wanclean.log /quiet - Messages generated when Eiconcard Optional Services are removed and messages generated by WANCLEAN.EXE are suppressed. Note that WANCLEAN.EXE will not reboot the system automatically. Note - Rebooting the system after executing WANCLEAN.EXE is strongly recommended. Note - /l: and /q can be substituted for /log: and /quiet respectively. Re-installing Eiconcards and services after executing WANCLEAN.exe ------------------------------------------------------------------ Eiconcards and Eiconcard Optional Services may be re-installed normally after executing WANCLEAN.EXE and rebooting the system. Note: When an Eiconcard is re-installed in the system after executing WANCLEAN.EXE, the Windows Hardware Wizard will appear even if earlier cards were installed using a Microsoft Certified version of the Eiconcard Connections for Windows software. The exception to this behavior is the Eiconcard Connections for Windows 2000 driver native to Microsoft Windows 2000. Cards supported by this driver will continue to install automatically after WANCLEAN.EXE has been executed. Eiconcard Optional Services and WANCLEAN.EXE -------------------------------------------- WANCLEAN.EXE will remove all Eiconcard Optional Services from the System, except as noted below. - Eiconcard WAN Miniports, Network Connections and WANCLEAN.EXE: WANCLEAN.EXE will prompt the user to delete any Network Connections associated with an Eicon WAN Miniport. - Eiconcard SNA Link Services and Microsoft Host Integration Server: WANCLEAN.EXE will not remove the Eiconcard SNA Link Services from Microsoft H.I.S. To uninstall Eiconcard SNA Link Services, run ECSNALS.MSI and choose "Remove." ECCLI, ECADMIN and PERFMON -------------------------- ECCLI, ECADMIN and PERFMON should be closed prior to executing WANCLEAN.EXE. Failure to close these applications may result in some files not being removed by WANCLEAN.EXE. If any of these applications are open, WANCLEAN.EXE will prompt the user to Terminate them or to Cancel the WANCLEAN application. If the /quiet option is specified, these applications will be Terminated automatically by WANCLEAN.EXE Other Dialogic(R) products ----------------------- Dialogic Diva(R) cards will not be affected by WANCLEAN.EXE The Eiconcard Development Suite will not be affected by WANCLEAN.EXE All other Dialogic products must be uninstalled before executing WANCLEAN.EXE. Return Codes ------------ The following codes may be returned by WANCLEAN.EXE 0 Application completed successfully. This code is also returned if there is nothing to be removed. 1 Wrong operating system. 2 PERFMON must be closed. 3 ECCLI must be closed. 4 ECADMIN must be closed. 5 System was not rebooted after executing WANCLEAN. 6 SNA LAN Gateway must be uninstalled prior to executing WANCLEAN. 7 SNA Connect must be uninstalled prior to executing WANCLEAN. 8 Eiconcard LAN must be uninstalled prior to executing WANCLEAN. 9 Unexpected error. 10 WMP Network Connections must be deleted before executing WANCLEAN Known Issues ------------ Do not halt the application during execution. Doing so may result in unpredictable behavior. Using PPP Connections ======================================================================== If you use PPP connections, take note of the following: Dynamically assigned IP address ------------------------------- If the local IP address in a PPP connection is set to DHCP and Windows has not yet assigned a temporary IP address (e.g., 169.x.x.x) when your connection is made, then the local IP address may not be updated automatically. If this occurs, close your connection and wait for the temporary address to be assigned before connecting again. A new Subnet Mask parameter has been added to PPP Router connections in EcAdmin and ECCLI. For this release the user must ensure that the mask is valid. Note that for this release there is no on-screen help for this feature. Changes to IP information in a PPP Connection made either manually in EcAdmin or ECCLI, or by importing a new configuration using either EcAdmin or ECCLI will now be automatically applied to the ECNDIS' Properties when the Eiconcard is restarted. This feature is only supported in PPP Router configurations. It is not supported in PPP Profiles configurations. If an existing value in EcAdmin is replaced with 0.0.0.0, the original value will remain in the ECNDIS' Network Properties until a successful connection is made. Once a connection has been made the Local IP address and the Default Gateway in the ECNDIS' Properties will be replaced with the IP information from a successful IPCP negotiation. If no Subnet Mask is configured in EcAdmin, then a standard Network Mask, based on the Local IP address, is automatically configured in the ECNDIS' Properties . Note that the time it takes to set the new IP information may vary depending on the setup used. Users should allow sufficient time for the operation to complete before continuing. In this release, non-standard masks may not import correctly and may be replaced by a standard Network Mask based on the local IP Address. For this release, after importing a configuration with fixed IP information in EcAdmin you must restart the card and allow the IP information to be set in the ECNDIS' Network Properties before changing the IP configuration in EcAdmin. PPP and Backup Connections -------------------------- PPP Backup connections on the same ISDN B channel, to the same remote IP Address, but using different remote directory numbers, are now supported. Backup connections for a PPP primary connection will now be invoked in the event of a PPP negotiation failure. Using Dynamic PPP ----------------- If you are using Dynamic PPP, make sure all of your connections are configured for auto-start. When using Dynamic PPP, you must use the 'ecdialer dial' command to initiate an outgoing call from the Dynamic PPP Server. When using Dynamic PPP, the Remote Username and Password fields in the Router Connection's Properties page must be completed. The Usernames MUST be unique across all configured connections. MPR start problem ----------------- When using Multilink PPP with 'Bandwidth On Demand' turned OFF, you may experience problems using the 'MPR Start' command from the command line. Using PAP and CHAP authentication --------------------------------- PAP and CHAP negotiation are enabled by default. If you are using CHAP authentication, the PPP local password is used as your CHAP Secret. If you are using PAP authentication, the PPP local password is used as your PAP local password. If you are connecting two (2) Eiconcard Routers, only CHAP authentication is negotiated. Miscellaneous ======================================================================== Windows 2000 Users ------------------ The CD includes more recent Eiconcard drivers than those included with Windows 2000. To obtain full functionality of your Eiconcard, you MUST run ECUPDATE.EXE after Windows 2000 has installed its drivers. Updating Your Existing Installation ----------------------------------- ECUPDATE.EXE is located in the Windows\W2000_XP_2003\x86 folder (for supported 32 bit OSs) and in the Windows\W2000_XP_2003\x64 folder (for supported 64 bit OSs) on the Universal Connections Suite CD. You must use ECUPDATE.EXE to update the Eiconcard Connections for Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista drivers. DO NOT use the "Update Driver" function in the Windows Device Manager, as this will not correctly update the complete set of Eiconcard drivers. After the update is complete, it is recommended that you verify your Eiconcard settings, such as Local IP Address. ECCLI ----- The Eiconcard Command Line Interface (ECCLI) provides a range of commands that you can use to configure, monitor and maintain Eiconcards. Eiconcard C91 and Hayes Dialer ------------------------------ If the primary number fails to connect, the secondary number will not be dialed. Stopping and restarting the Eiconcard using batch files ------------------------------------------------------- When one or more routers are installed, stopping and then restarting the Eiconcard in a batch file may result in unusual behavior. Ensure that there is at least a two-second pause between the Stop and Start commands. Using the Windows 'Standby' or 'Hibernation' Modes -------------------------------------------------- Eiconcards may not function correctly when your computer comes out of Standby or Hibernate mode. To address this situation, open a command prompt and restart the Eiconcard(s) using the ECCARD STOP & and ECCARD START commands from the Eicon folder. Available Sessions and Tracing ------------------------------ If you are using the maximum number of X.25 sessions for a port, you must close one open session before you can enable a trace on the port. This is necessary because the trace needs to use a session. Segmentation Support on Frame Relay Connections ----------------------------------------------- Eiconcard Connections for Windows does not support segmentation on Frame Relay connections. Dynamic X.25 ------------ If you select Dynamic X.25 for your connections, and you want to accept incoming calls, you must: Configure an incoming connection with the remote DTE address set to an asterisk ("*"). Set the remote IP address to blank. For more information on Dynamic X.25, see "Dynamic X.25 Routing" in the Online Manual (ecguide.chm). Eiconcard LAN Server and Aviva (from Aviva Solutions Inc.) ---------------------------------------------------------- If you are using Eiconcard LAN Server (available separately from Dialogic Corp.) with Eiconcard Connections for Windows and Aviva versions 8.00a and above, both products will share the same log and trace files. This means that they cannot both run at the same time. It is recommended that you install Aviva on a different computer. Using Control-C with MORE with ECCLI ------------------------------------ When the screen output extends the physical length of the screen or DOS window, you will be prompted with a -- more -- page break. Pressing CTRL-C at this prompt will exit the ECCLI program. If you want to terminate the display listing, press the "q" key. Command line switches ---------------------- All Eiconcard command line utilities (including EC Commands and ECCLI) support the use of both "\" and "-" with switches. ######################## End of 213-338-10 ############################# Copyright(C) 2000-2008 Dialogic Corporation.
