Serial number of HMP virtual device

  • Being that HMP does not rely on physical hardware, where does its serial number come from?

Where is the serial number stored?

    Thanks.

  • HI,

This was just an arbitrary value which was populated to maintain consistency of the property sheet across the DNI and HMP devices. Its not actually used in this case.

    Jeff

  • Ok,

    Where is "SerialNumber" stored?

    How can I change it?

    Thanks.

  • Why do you ask, is there some issue here?

You cant change that as it generated at the driver level.

    Jeff

  • Yes,

The dialogic serial number was hard coded into some old software, and now the software won't work on a new server because it has a different dialogic serial number.

Can you sell me a "patch" that will set my serial number to what it was on my old server?

    Much appreciated.

  • What O/S version and HMP SU are you seeing this on?

I believe there should still be a number there, as I checked on latest build from two systems and it was ok.

    Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

Yes, there is a number there, but it's the WRONG NUMBER.

What I'm asking is to CHANGE the number so that it matches to what it was on my previous server.

Can you sell me a "patch" that will set my serial number to what it was on my old server?

I am presently using Windows 2016.

I have recently installed the latest version of HMP.

  • Ok, what number were you expecting?  (what prior SU was that on)?

    What value is there now?

Like I said though, it's an arbitrary number that may not be the same. Thus you should not be checking for a specific value in this case as it's something defined at a lower level. Thus I am not sure you should be using that value for anything.

    Jeff

  • On the prior server, I was using dialogic BOARDS and the serial number was: GM035506

On the new server, I am using dialog HMP and the serial number is: LK003141

The prior serial number is HARDCODED into the software and I am not the developer so I can't change it

.Can you sell me a "patch" that will set my serial number on the new server to GM035506?

  • No, we can't do that since GM035506 is a actual physical board (D4PCIUF) and was meant to be used with System Release software.

In this case you are using HMP software now and requires to abide by the parameters set within. You need to have this addressed by your software vendor in this case as well as having the application recompiled to run on HMP 3.0 SU. Had that been done yet? As the same binary is not compatibility to run on both.

    Jeff

  • The software is already designed to support HMP. This is not an issue.

The software already abides by the parameters of HMP. This is not an issue.

The only issue is the serial number; I need the serial number on the new server to be GM035506.

How can we make this happen?

  • Unfortunately, that can not be done since its not an HMP based serial number and there froe will never work. It sounds like that restriction was put in place to restrict usage of your application to specific server and HW of which you may have paid for by the third party. (sort of like a dongle)

Overall, you need to follow up with that third party vendor to see if that can change that.

There is nothing we can do for this in this case

    Jeff

  • Question:

    1) Is this HMP serial number generated upon installation or every time the service starts up.

    2) If the we make changes to the server hardware, might that cause this HMP serial number to change?

    Thank you.

  • To answer your questions:

    1. The HMP serial number is generating upon first detection of HMP device after install is done and its based on an algorithm run on the MAC address of the physical NIC on the server.

    2. Yes, if you changed the network card that may happen based on the above.

    Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

The HMP serial number I usually get looks something like this: "LK003141"

However, on one server the serial number came up as "LKABCDEF". Why does this happen and what does it mean?

What can be done to generate a unique serial number?

    Thank you.
