Service providers can use PowerMedia XMS to deploy high density conferencing applications on common datacenter server infrastructure

Milpitas, CA – September 5, 2012Dialogic (NASDAQ: DLGC), a leading provider of products and technologies that enable operators to provide – and subscribers to enjoy – an enhanced mobile experience, today announced that The Tolly Group, an independent testing agency, has awarded its performance certification to Dialogic® PowerMedia™ Extended Media Server (PowerMedia XMS) Release 1.1. PowerMedia XMS is a powerful software media server that enables real-time audio and video communications solutions for mobile and broadband environments on common datacenter server infrastructure. The Tolly Group testing confirmed that PowerMedia XMS 1.1 meets or exceeds criteria in areas of media server density, host CPU and memory utilization, call processing, media latency and voice quality as defined by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for media latency and the PESQ algorithm for voice quality. In today’s networks, media servers are used to deliver high density value added network services such as conferencing, messaging and IVR applications.

"We are pleased to have worked with Dialogic to conduct these benchmark testing reports on PowerMedia XMS," said Kevin Tolly, founder of The Tolly Group. "For PowerMedia XMS 1.1, Tolly was able to successfully measure and document areas of critical media server performance for conferencing services including call rates, latency and audio quality at a session density of 2,000 channels." The full Tolly Group test report can be found here.

Although demand for audio conferencing minutes has continued to grow worldwide, competitive pricing pressure has led to a decline in revenue per minute, putting severe margin pressure on service providers. Conference service providers are seeking cost effective, flexible media processing that also unlocks the profit potential of video and broadband mobility, while efficiently delivering core audio conferencing sessions. PowerMedia XMS can help reduce the cost of deployment and operation of audio and video conferencing services because it runs on common datacenter server infrastructure (including cloud-based computing infrastructure) which can be readily scaled as needed.

NS-Technologies, a Dialogic technology partner headquartered in South Wales, UK, develops specialized conferencing management software used by global service providers which includes servicing the needs of the financial industry. “Performance and reliability is critical to our success in this demanding market,” stated Chris Boulton, CTO and co-founder of NS-Technologies. “PowerMedia XMS delivers the media processing we require to service these applications in a most efficient and cost effective manner, with the familiar industry standard MSML control protocols.”

PowerMedia XMS provides industry standard interfaces and protocols for media and call control that delivers fast time-to-market and decreased vendor lock in. XMS is well suited for use with third party SIP application servers in public and private IP communications networks, including those with IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architectures. Secure OA&M interfaces can simplify installation, configuration, diagnostics and serviceability. In addition, conferencing endpoint support spans traditional PSTN connected endpoints, standard SIP endpoints and mobile soft clients for smartphones, tablets, laptops and workstations.

“While initial demand for PowerMedia XMS has been centered on the strength of its video processing, HD voice capabilities and video conferencing support, its support for high density audio conferencing is now clearly validated by the performance test results published by the Tolly Group, and recognized by conference solution developers and service providers that require more competitive architectures,” said Kevin Gould, senior vice president and general manager, operations at Dialogic.

The Tolly Group testing was performed using Dialogic PowerMedia Extended Media Server Release 1.1 (PowerMedia XMS 1.1), which became available for download and licensing from Dialogic in August 2012. PowerMedia XMS 1.1 enhancements (over Release 1.0) include new management console features, expanded 64-bit Linux OS support, HD video processing at 720p resolution, and broader support for the standard MSML control protocol frequently used in conferencing applications.
