Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP)

SCTP provides connections between various Session Initiated Protocol (SIP) servers and proxy servers, collectively called Call Session Control Function (CSCF). SCTP provides some of the same service features of both UDP and TCP. It is message-oriented like UDP and ensures reliable, in-sequence transport of messages with congestion control like TCP; it differs from these in providing multi-homing and redundant paths to increase resilience and reliability.
