Token-based authentication systems allow users to enter their username and password in order to obtain an Authentication Token (ATUN) which grants them access to fetch a specific resource, without having to use their username and password again. Once their token has been obtained, the user can offer the token which grants access to a specific resource for a specific time period to the remote site.
