Excel’s VXML Offering

Speech technologies have allowed the telephone to become a powerful medium for servicing customers and employees, and improving business processes. Excel Switching Corporation is supporting the growing demand for easy to use speech solutions. With these solutions, carriers can achieve higher port densities with high reliability and scalability.

Excel's Converged Services Platform (CSP) is offering an integrated VoiceXML platform having multiple extension points enabled with Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and Text-To-Speech (TTS) capabilities. See This Release.

VoiceXML, or Voice eXtensible Markup Language, is a defined standard for speech-enabled applications that uses a high-level programming language to support the dialog that occurs between a person and a computer via the telephone. This integrated product allows developers to create VoiceXML applications, and integrate with multiple ASR and TTS servers. A key part of the Excel CSP speech technology is the voice browser, VocalOS™ which is the architectural framework and central communications point developed by Vocalocity. The Vocalocity voice browser which is deployed on a VocalOS server, allows you to customize and quickly adapt solutions to meet diverse market requirements.

Using SwitchKit for Voice Applications

Excel developers can easily take advantage of speech technology using SwitchKit. SwitchKit application developers can easily integrate speech capabilities with call processing applications by using the Excel-provided Telephony Extension Point (TEP). The TEP provides event and function mapping between the SwitchKit API and the Vocalocity voice browser. The TEP component uses SwitchKit API as its native API. In the current phase, the TEP provides functionality for calls requiring DTMF digit collection, TTS via Network File System (NFS) mount, and Play / Record via NFS mount. Excel's VXML offering support for VoiceXML 1.0 and 2.0 specifications.
