Release Notes 213-373-01 April 2001 Eicon XPAD Client for Windows 2000 Introduction ======================================================================== These Release Notes provide additional information related to the configuration and use of the Eicon XPAD Client and supersedes any corresponding information in the online help. Consult this document for important information about known problems and limitations before you install and use Eicon XPAD Client. Table of Contents ======================================================================== 1) System Requirements 2) Installing Eicon XPAD Client 3) Performing File Transfers 4) Third-party Emulation 5) Using Eiconcard LAN Client and XPAD 6) Miscellaneous 7) Trademarks 1) System Requirements ======================================================================== The minimum requirements for a computer to run Eicon XPAD Client are as follows: - An IBM-compatible x86-based computer running Microsoft Windows 2000 with Service Pack 1 and Eiconcard LAN Client - The computer must meet at least the minimum system requirements for the version of Windows 2000 that it is running. 2) Installing Eicon XPAD Client ======================================================================== Before you install Eicon XPAD Client, take note of the following: - You must install Eiconcard LAN Client before you install Eicon XPAD Client. - You cannot install Eicon XPAD Client on a multiprocessor computer, even if only one processor is installed. - If you plan to use Eicon XPAD Client on the same PC as Eicon X.25 Development Tools, you should stop Eicon Redirector Services. Follow the steps below to install the Eicon XPAD Client: 1. Insert the Eiconcard LAN Client/Server CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive. 2. Click 'Start', point to 'Settings', and click 'Control Panel'. 3. Double-click 'Add/Remove Hardware'. 4. Click 'Next'. 5. Make sure 'Add/Troubleshoot a device' is selected, and click 'Next'. The wizard searches for new hardware. 6. In the 'Devices' list, select 'Add a new device', and click 'Next'. 7. Select 'No, I want to select the hardware from a list', and click 'Next'. 8. In the 'Hardware types' list, select 'Multi-port serial adapters', then click 'Next'. 9. Click 'Have Disk'. 10. Type 'd:\xpad\eicpadcl.inf' (where D: is your CD-ROM drive letter). 11. Follow the instructions presented on your screen. 12. When the installation is complete, repeat steps 1-11 to install the Eicon Redirector. Specify 'd:\xpad\redir' as the path in step 10. 3) Performing File Transfers ======================================================================== If you need to perform a file transfer, use predefined X.3 Profiles (6) for your local and remote X.3 parameters. 4) Third-party Emulation ======================================================================== - Eicon XPAD Client supports the following third-party terminal emulation products: - Hyperterminal - Reflexion 32-bit - PowerTerm(r) 32-bit - Kermit transfer protocol is supported only with Hyperterminal. - You cannot capture text when using Hyperterminal. 5) Using Eiconcard LAN Client and XPAD ======================================================================== - Eicon XPAD Client for Windows 2000 should be used only with Eiconcard LAN Client Version 5 Release 1 (V5R1). - If you make changes to the default gateway setting in Eiconcard LAN Client, Eicon XPAD Client is not updated dynamically. After you make a change to the Eiconcard LAN Client, you must restart your PC for the change to take effect. 6) Miscellaneous ======================================================================== Using TOA/NPI Addressing ------------------------ If you are using TOA/NPI addressing, the first two digits of your address must be 03, 13 or 23, depending on the host configuration. Connecting to a Windows 95/98 Computer -------------------------------------- If you are connecting to a computer that is running Eicon XPAD Client for Windows 95/98, you must set the packet size on the Windows 95/98 computer to at least 2048k. Sending Local X.25 Address -------------------------- If you are required to send your local X.25 address to establish a connection, you must set the Connection Type to None, and send your call manually. 7) Trademarks ======================================================================== Eicon is a registered trademark of Eicon Networks Corporation.
