Asian telecom carriers ready and receptive to adopt real-time media processing solutions

Parsippany, N.J.-  Nov. 12, 2014 Dialogic Inc., the Network Fuel® company, and TeleStax today announced that the Dialogic® PowerMedia™ XMS media server has integrated with TeleStax SIP Servlets, a SIP/IMS and WebRTC Application Server available as part of the open source Mobicents Platform or as a “carrier-grade” supported product called TelScale.  The combined platform enables service providers to fully embrace cloud and NFV initiatives as well as being strongly suited for enabling WebRTC applications. It also was recently demonstrated and installed in the labs of NTT-AT (http://www.ntt-at.com/), a longtime distributor of Dialogic products in Japan, as part of a demonstration of a WebRTC video conferencing application developed on the platform.

According to Dr. Naoki Uchida, chief executive manager of NTT-AT, “This combination of best-of-breed TeleStax signaling and application developer enablement with Dialogic real-time media processing represents a powerful solution for customers and an enormous opportunity for WebRTC.”

For increased usability, this new combined platform works across many networks and clients including SIP endpoints and WebRTC browsers. It also includes a variety of options for PSTN interconnectivity and SIP-to-WebRTC interworking. Other capabilities of the combined platform include audio and video support, video conferencing, screen sharing and recording, whiteboarding, messaging and shared video watching.

“We are seeing strong demand from top-tier operators around the world,” said Jean Deruelle, co-founder of TeleStax. “The integration of Mobicents/ TelScale SIP Servlets and PowerMedia XMS is a great choice for providing communications via cloud at a time when telcos are shifting to NFV infrastructures and launching new WebRTC initiatives.”

“PowerMedia XMS adds mature and robust media server capabilities while enabling many new video capabilities,” Deruelle added.

Jim Machi, senior vice president marketing and product management at Dialogic said, “The platform we put together for NTT-AT is proof of how XMS can be combined with leading-edge application servers like Mobicents/TelScale to provide a compelling offering that leverages WebRTC and real-time media servers.”

Telestax provides telecom application servers that are highly scalable and event-driven with a robust component model and fault tolerant execution environment. It provides a set of connectors to a variety of networks elements including: SS7 MAP, TCAP, INAP, ISUP, SMPP, USSD, XMPP, SIP, MGCP, HTTP, XDM, XCAP and many others. They are part of Mobicents, an open-source community of telecom middleware projects, which was founded by the TeleStax core team in 2003.

Dialogic’s PowerMedia XMS, provides standards-based, real-time multimedia processing and media server solutions. PowerMedia XMS offers critical server-side media processing capabilities including multi-party conferencing, interworking, and recording with full support for SIP, IMS, and WebRTC environments.

WebRTC is inspiring new features, applications and services in the minds of developers around the world. It is extending real-time communications applications into new industries, such as education, healthcare and entertainment, to name a few.

According to Dean Bubley, director at Disruptive Analysis, more than six billion devices will support WebRTC by 2019, creating tremendous potential reach for voice- and video-enabled applications. This volume of WebRTC-capable endpoints, paired with the technology’s web- and app-oriented application programming interfaces (APIs) and burgeoning developer ecosystem, presages significant disruption in network communications.
