How to reset to factory defaults
Need:
When using a Dialogic® 1000 Media Gateway (DMG1000) or Dialogic® 2000 Media Gateway (DMG2000) in a lab setting where you need to change the configuration between PBXs for testing purposes, or moving a gateway from one location to another for use on a different PBX, you will need to understand the process of what it takes to reset the gateway to its clean factory starting point. This technical note will review this process with you.
Why:
The possible reasons for resetting the gateway are:
- You want to start fresh on a gateway after making several configuration changes.
- You forgot the password for the gateway after changing it from the default.
- You want to start fresh for a new integration after replacing your PBX with a new model.
How To:
While there are physical differences between a DMG1000 and a DMG2000 gateway, the steps required to fully reset either gateway to its factory default state are the same.
The key differences are the fact that a DMG1000 only has one serial port, whereas the a DMG2000 has dual serial ports. This is important because the serial port must be used to reset the gateway to factory defaults.
When performing these steps on a DMG2000, you must use COM2 because COM1 is only used for serial integration data and will not respond to any maintenance commands. It is also important to note that to perform these actions on a DMG1000 you must not have the serial port configured for serial integration. If your DMG1000 is currently configured for serial integration you must use the web interface to disable this feature before the serial port will respond to maintenance commands.
Henceforward, the term 'gateway' should be taken to mean 'DMG1000 (where the serial port is not configured for serial integration) or DMG2000'.
To reset a gateway to factory defaults using the serial port take the following steps:
- Connect to the gateway via the serial port using a null modem cable and press enter until you see the PIMG> prompt appear.
- At the prompt type the 'reset' command and press enter.
- When you are asked to validate your request type the 'yes' or 'no' response and press enter. You must type the whole word "yes" otherwise the reset will not be performed.
The settings in your gateway are now reset to the factory defaults. After the reset the gateway has an IP address of 10.12.13.74, the username will be admin and the password will be IpodAdmin (case sensitive!). You can restart your gateway at this point and reconfigure it as needed.
NOTE: If your previous configuration made use of any custom ADEPT parsing rules then you will need to clear this part of the configuration manually. This is done simply by creating a zero byte (empty) plain text file named default.adt, uploading it to the gateway via the update page of the web interface, and then rebooting. These rules are intentionally not defaulted back to factory during this process and thus require a manual reset to ensure that any modifications done to the rules are not accidentally lost during a reset cycle.
If you have not changed the serial settings from the default configuration, they should be as follows:
DMG1000 - COM1

Baud Rate = 115200
Stop Bits = 1
