Direct Incoming calls using MSN with Diva Media boards

Introduction

Incoming calls to a a Diva Media Board may be required to be passed to more than one application - for example, RAS services for network access, and CAPI services for a Fax server. This can be done using Multiple Subscriber Numbering (MSN).

In the particular example we provide here, a Diva BRI adapter on a Point-to-Multipoint line is using RAS and CAPI services. It needs to be configured so that it can receive calls for both services and direct them to two different applications.

It is therefore necessary to differentiate which application or service must answer which incoming calls. In order to do this, you need to assign different phone numbers on your ISDN line to the required services.

Procedure

  • Open the Dialogic Diva Configuration Manager
  • Click on the Line symbol in the left-hand panel
  • The 'Properties' of the line appear in the right-hand panel
  • You can now configure the MSN numbers.

As we are using two MSN numbers in this scenario we need to configure the fields MSN, as shown in the screenshot below:

You then need to configure each service to specify which of the two numbers it should answer.

The screenshot below shows an example of this for the RAS service.

  • Click on the binding between RAS and the Diva BRI adapter
  • Select the MSN number you want to assign to the RAS service

  • Now configure the second MSN number for the CAPI service in the same way.

After configuration, your CAPI application will only receive incoming calls on the MSN number shown below:

What is Multiple Subscriber Numbering?

Multiple Subscriber Numbering (MSN) is a service that allows you to have several phone numbers for your ISDN line. You will normally need to request the MSN service from your ISDN Service provider.

For example, your ISDN line provider might give you a range of ten numbers, such as 765 4320, 765 4321, through to 765 4329. You can then assign these different numbers to the various services that your Diva card offers.

For instance, you could have an analogue fax modem on one number (765 4350), a Dial-Up Networking connection to a RAS Server on another number (765 4321), and so on.

According to the Euro-ISDN specification, the numbers do not have to be in sequence. Therefore, some providers will allocate non-contiguous MSN numbers, such as  765 3500, 765 3632, 810 4332, 765 7852, and so on.
