Configure the Dialogic Diva Media board for NT mode

Can the Diva Media Board be configured to work in NT mode?

Yes - it is indeed possible to operate the Diva Media Board as either the ‘TE - Terminal Equipment’ on a PBX or the PSTN, or the Diva Media Board can operate as the ‘NT - Network Termination/Switch', (this is referred to as 'NT mode').

NT mode is supported by all Diva Media Boards except the Diva 2FX and the Diva BRI-CTI.

Normally, Diva Media Boards are operated as terminal equipment. As terminal equipment, they derive their timing from the signal received from the external NT (e.g. PSTN or PBX) and use this derived timing to synchronize their transmitted signal.

Alternatively, the Diva Media Board can be used at the network termination, and in this mode the card itself generates the pulse from which the terminal equipment derives timing and synchronization. Using Diva Media Boards in NT Mode can be useful in a diverse range of applications.

To configure a Diva Media Board for NT mode, use the following procedure:

1. Go to Start-> All Programs-> Dialogic Diva -> Configuration Manager.

  • Make sure that option 'Advanced' is selected in the menu option 'View'.
  • Click on the Line.

2. Move the cursor to the Operation Mode section.

  • Use the drop-down box to change the operation mode from TE to NT.

3. Save the new setting and activate the configuration.

4. Reboot when prompted for the settings to take effect.

Some Sample Applications

The following is a list of some possible uses for Diva Media Boards in NT mode:

Q-Sig Master

Diva Media Boards in network termination mode serve as the 'master' in PBX networks that use the Q-Sig protocol. This is one of the main applications for using NT Mode.

Back-to-back Operation

Two Diva Media Boards can be operated back-to-back. Back-to-back operation allows you to set up network-independent test scenarios for trade shows, product demonstrations, and to run stress testing and long-term tests for application software.

Network Emulation

Diva Media Boards are used as test or measuring device by running test scripts with third-party software that supports network emulation.

Connecting Terminal Equipment

Standard terminal equipment such as telephones or terminal adapters are connected to the Diva Media Board. Note, however, that you must use an external S0 power supply from a third-party manufacturer if you operate the Diva Media Board in combination with terminal equipment that requires a power source.

For further information on properly connecting Diva Media Boards acting as an NT to the respective TEs, see the printed installation guide that came with your Diva Media Board, or that you download from the documentation site.
