Installing virtual modems

See also What virtual modems can be installed with the Diva Client?

Prerequisites:

This process should be followed if:

  • You have physically installed the Diva Client card
  • You have installed the Diva Client for Windows XP/2000 software and rebooted the computer.

Note: You can only install virtual modems that your Diva card supports. The Diva 2.01 and 2.02 cards and the Diva USB do not support the following virtual modems:

  • Eicon ISDN analogue modem

  • Eicon ISDN Fax Modem

  • Eicon ISDN V.110 Modem

Step 1. To install a virtual modem you need to go into Control Panel and open the Phone and Modem Options.

Step 2. Select the Modems tab.

Note: You can only install virtual modems that your Diva card supports. The Diva 2.01 and 2.02 card and the Diva USB do NOT support the following virtual modems:

  • Eicon ISDN analogue modem
  • Eicon ISDN Fax Modem

Step 6. A list of COM ports is displayed. The COM ports listed from COM4 to COM9 are the virtual COM ports installed by the Diva Client for Windows 2000 drivers, and you can select any of these for the modem to be attached to. Then click Next.

You have now successfully added a virtual modem and you are ready to use this with a COM port based application.

Checking the Modem Installation

To check if the modem has been installed correctly, open the properties of the modem and under the Diagnostics tab, click Query Modem.

There will be a list of AT commands that are sent to the modem and which the modem responds to. The output of the ATI commands should be 'Eicon ISDN Modem'. Unless an error is reported here the modem has been installed correctly.
