Using Line Check
This page explains how to use the Line Check tool to resolve problems with the installation.
Line Check is installed as part of the Diva Client drivers. If the Diva Program group is not available in Start <>> Programs, then install the latest Diva Client drivers.
To start Line Check, click on the START button and go to the Diva program group. Click on Diva Client Line Test.
Click the Start button.
Line check performs a quick check of the ISDN Line and then displays a result such as the following:
A list of list of the results and what they mean is displayed below.
Line check Results:

Success! Line Check test passed.
This is the successful (and desired) outcome of the Line Check test. It indicates that the Diva card is installed correctly and is communicating with the network.
Note: This is not an exhaustive test and does not necessarily mean that all calls placed through the card will always work. If you are still experiencing problems please try using the Diva Acopy2 utility to make and receive some test calls.

Failure! No ISDN card found. DIVA software not correctly installed.
The Line Check utility is unable to locate any Diva card in your system.
top
Failure! ISDN card does not work correctly. Installation probably not correct.
The Line Check utility has located a Diva card on your system, but is unable to communicate with it.
top
Failure! Unknown error. A resource conflict probably exists in your system or the Diva card has been removed.
The Line Check utility has located a Diva card on your system, but is unable to communicate with it. This is probably due to a conflict with other devices in your computer.
- Use Windows 'Device Manager' to look for resource conflicts (indicated by a yellow exclamation mark next to the device). If so, then try and reallocate Interrupts (IRQs) or memory resources to resolve the conflict.
- Update your BIOS by downloading the latest version from the manufacturer
- Ensure that the card has been assigned a fixed IRQ within the BIOS
- Ensure that the BIOS entry relating to 'Plug and Play Operating System' is set to 'Yes'.
- Try swapping the card into a different PCI slot.
If the problem persists, try the card in another computer to confirm whether the card is functioning correctly or not.

Failure! Test aborted with an error.
The message will report some additional information:

Layer 1 error. Check cable/NT1
Check that the cable is plugged into the Diva card. Beware if you have LAN adapter in your PC that you have not connected the ISDN line to this card.
Suggested remedial actions:
a) There is a problem with the cable or the NT1 box on the wall. Try changing the cable, and confirming that the NT1 is functioning by trying another ISDN device on the line. (You can use a standard 'Cat 5' Ethernet cable to swap out for the ISDN cable.)
b) You have a Point-to-Point line, and have configured your line as a Point-to-Multipoint line within the Diva software. Please confirm that you have the correct settings for your line within your configuration.
c) There is a problem with the BIOS:
- Update your BIOS by downloading the latest version from the manufacturer
- Ensure that the card has been assigned a fixed IRQ within the BIOS
- Ensure that the BIOS entry relating to ' Plug and Play Operating System' is set to 'Yes'.
- Try swapping the card into a different PCI slot.
If the problem persists, try the card in another computer to confirm whether the card is functioning correctly or not.
Repeat the test. If the problem is persistent, you may need to change the card configuration to match your ISDN line.
This error indicates that although the card can communicate with the ISDN network, it has been configured incorrectly. Please check:
- You are using the correct switch type e.g. 'EuroISDN'
- You have configured the Diva card correctly for either a Point-to-Point or Point-To-Multipoint line
- The Layer 2 Connect Mode is set correctly. This is either Permanent, On Demand or No Disconnect:

Required Information Element is missing
The Line Check program sends out a 'dummy' call to the phone switch to test that the ISDN card can physically speak to the switch. (In the analogue world, this would be the equivalent of lifting the handset on the phone and hearing the dial tone.)
Since Line Check is attempting to make a call with effectively no telephone number, some switches do not like this. From the switch's point of view, it doesn't make sense to receive a message to make a phone call with no telephone number. This is what the "Mandatory information element is missing" message means.
So, while this may seem like a message indicating failure, the very fact that a message has been received from the PBX means that Line Check was in fact successful.
top
No circuit/channel available
The most obvious cause for this error message is simply that the line is busy - i.e. another call is in progress on the line. If that is not the case, however, then there is a problem with the line being unavailable, and the service provider should be contacted.
top
Information element not existent or invalid
This error message usually indicates a problem with the ISDN Network and the service provider should be contacted.

Recovery on Timer Expiry
This message means that you have not configured your card correctly for the line.
This message normally means that your PBX uses the QSig protocol, and that the Diva Card has not been configured correctly to match the settings on your PBX. Note that Diva Client cards do not support the Qsig protocol.
