How to use SIPcontrol Dialplans

The Dialogic® Diva® SIPcontrol™ Software Dialplan is used to convert number formats used by one interface into number formats used by another interface. On the SIP side it is common to present numbers in E.164 format.

International numbers consist of international prefix, country,  area, base and extension code, e.g. +44  1628 384 123/0044  1628 384 123.

National numbers consist of national prefix, area code, base number and extension number, e.g. UK number 01628 123 456. Converted to E.164 this number has the format +44 1628 123 456 where the national prefix gets replaced by the international prefix and country code.

Numbers sent to and from the gateway will typically not always be in E.164 format.

However it is not possible to dial E.164 numbers on the PSTN or when connected to a PBX. So the Gateway needs to convert or ‘localise’ numbers to be able to present them to the PBX.

This is generally handled automatically by the Dialplan settings on the Dialogic® 4000 Media Gateways. There are three parts to this – the main Dialplan configuration and the Address Normalisation settings in the PSTN or SIP Peer details. In particular, the parameters Type of Number (outbound) and Encoding (outbound) control the format in which numbers are localised.

Note:All called, calling and (if present) redirection numbers are converted based on the Dialplan. If one part should use a different conversion setting, a corresponding Address Map needs to be used. See How to use SIPcontrol Address Maps.

The following sample outputs show how both parameters influence numbers based on the configured Dialplan.
