How to assign different TDM profiles to different E1/T1 spans

Symptom:

In the Dialogic® IMG 2020 Integrated Media Gateway (software version 2.2.x) Web GUI, it is not immediately apparent how different TDM profiles can be assigned to different TDM spans. This article explains how such assignment can be achieved.

Background:

When configuring E1 or T1 DS-1 spans, one object containing the configuration for several DS-1 spans can be added. It is not possible to add one object for each DS-1 span.

Procedure:

When creating the DS-1 / Bearer Spans object, you are presented with 3 drop-down menus: Starting Offset, Ending Offset and Profile Name as shown in the image below.

Bearer Span Configuration

After this object is committed, the selected spans will be listed in the Object Table at the bottom. Initially they will all have the same profile assigned. In this example, 2 E1 profiles have been created under Profiles -> TDM Profiles, named "E1_Profile_1" and "E1_Profile_2", and all spans are initially assigned to "E1_Profile_1".

DS-1 Span default configuration

To change the profile of a specific span, select the DS-1 Spans object, set the Starting Offset and Ending Offset to the span number you wish to change, and select the profile to assign the span to. In the following image, span number 2 and E1_Profile_2 have been selected.

Commit this object again. Notice that the TDM profile for the Span 2 has been changed to "E1_Profile_2".

It is also possible to select a range of spans in order to change the TDM profile for all spans in that range at once. In the following image, we want to change the TDM profile for spans 4 to 6 from "E1_Profile_1" to "E1_Profile_2". Select Starting Offset = 4 and Ending Offset = 6, then select the new TDM profile from the drop-down menu.

Multiple span configuration

Commit the object again to apply the change. Notice that spans 4 to 6 now also have E1_Profile_2 assigned.

The same procedure can be used for all DS-1 Spans objects: the discrete 4 E1/T1 spans on an OC-3/STM-1 model, the 24 E1/T1 spans on the E1/T1 model, the single DS-1 Spans under an Optical Interface object and DS-1 Spans objects under DS-3 Spans objects.
