Information for Dell customers

This document relates to issues that Dell PC customers may have when using the Diva ISDN PCI card that has been pre-installed in a Dell PC. The information below is specific to the Diva 2.01 or Diva 2.02 PCI card that is factory-fitted in Dell PCs.

A Dell PC with a factory-fitted Diva card has a Dell-specific driver installed that is designed to provide immediate Internet access.

If you are not able to connect to the Internet, this may be due to a number of reasons ranging from installation to configuration issues. In this case, please contact Dell Support for assistance. The notes below are provided as general guidance to help solve some of these issues. Please refer to Dell support for further guidance, and especially if there is a doubt that the Diva card is faulty.

Notes:
Dell customers may, if they wish, download the latest Diva Client drivers. It is necessary to download these drivers if virtual modem support is required.

If calls can not be made please go through the Checklist below:

Step 1. Run a Line Check.

Make a note of the error message, if any. Look up the error message on the page Using Line Check

If Line Check is successful, proceed to make a call using the Dial-up Connection software. Refer to Microsoft documentation for details on how to do this.

Step 2. Check the Line Properties.

Go to the Line Properties and check that the settings match the ISDN line being used. If necessary, verify this with the line provider. Usually, for residential customers, the switch type is EuroISDN and the line type is a Point-to-Multipoint line.

Step 3. Check that the ISDN cable.

Is the ISDN cable correctly plugged into the socket of the Diva ISDN PCI card. Most PCs include a network card, so ensure that the ISDN cable has not accidentally been plugged into it.

IMPORTANT: in order to use any Diva ISDN device, you must have an ISDN line. It is not possible to connect the Diva device to a traditional analogue telephone line.

Step 4. Disable network card.

If the PC already has a network card installed, disable it temporarily in Device Manager and reinstall the Diva ISDN PCI card as described in step 5 below. After reinstalling the Diva card and ensuring that it works okay, the network card can be re-enabled.

Step 5. Reinstalling the driver.

If the above steps do not lead to a resolution of your problem, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the Diva ISDN PCI card following this procedure:

5.1 Go to the Diva Program Group, and select the Uninstall option, as shown below:

5.2 Once the uninstall is complete, restart the PC and wait for the operating system to detect the Diva ISDN PCI card. When the Hardware Wizard pops up, specify the location where the drivers are. The drivers for the Diva card are provided in the drivers CD that came as part of the PC package.

From this point onwards, the installation of the Diva ISDN PCI card is the same as the one described in the manual.

5.3 Once the installation of the Diva Client drivers is complete, follow Steps 1 to 4 above.

If after following these steps, calls cannot be made from the card, contact Dell support for further guidance.
