Diva USB: USB standards and Compatibility

If a USB chipset, or Host Adapter, or a USB product, does not fully comply with the USB standard, then it may prevent other USB products from functioning properly, even though these products are themselves fully compliant with the USB specification. Many of these issues involve critical timings which may only reveal themselves under load. For example, all devices may work OK except when sending a very large fax.

If you are still experiencing problems after checking all the settings for a USB device and finding them to be correct, it is worth checking out the individual elements of the USB chain. These are:

  • The USB chipset on the PC system board, or the USB host adapter card that has been installed in the PC
  • The USB external hub, or hubs, in use
  • The other USB devices connected to your PC

Any one of these can influence the correct operation of the Diva USB. Use Windows Device Manager to check out your USB Settings. Discover who the manufacturer of the various components is, and consult the supplier or their website to check for USB compatibility issues. There may be fixes, driver patches, or BIOS upgrades available which could cure the problem you are experiencing. In addition, try the following suggestions to see if you can pinpoint the device concerned:

  • Remove all other USB items and install the Diva USB exclusively.
  • Re-install the other USB devices one by one to see which item may be causing the problem.
  • Connect the Diva USB directly to the USB port on the PC if you are using a USB Hub.
  • Connect the Diva USB to a powered hub.
  • Connect the Diva USB on another PC if problems persist.
